Babies Should Sleep With Mom to 3 Years

Doctor children at the University of Cape Town in South Africa suggest that newborn babies have to share a bed with their mother until at least until the age of 3 years.

Advice as opposed to the previous health advice states that babies tend to be more stressful if they are left to sleep alone. Claimed that sleep in their mother's chest to make newborn baby can relax better than laid out in his own bed.

This advice comes from Dr. Nils Bergman, a pediatrician at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He found that babies sleep alone makes it more difficult to create a bond with the mother. Sleeping apart can also damage the brain development of infants who later can cause behavioral problems.

Previously, several studies suggest that infants should sleep separately from the mother for letting the baby sleep with his mother increases the risk of infant death. This was due to the risk that a mother could harm her child during sleep or rest on.

Meanwhile, the National Childbirth Trust supports the suggestion that infants sleep with their mothers. Recommended, the safest place for baby to sleep is in the parents room, but not in their beds.

Dr. Bergman, however, insisted that the deaths and injuries in infants is not caused by the mother. "If there's a baby choking and dying bed, it was not because his mother," he told the Daily Mail. "There are factors such as toxic fumes, cigarettes, alcohol, big pillows, and dangerous toys."
