Recognize Prostate Cancer Up Close

Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. Most prostate cancers grow slowly indeed, but there are several types there are fairly aggressive and spread rapidly. This can significantly shorten the life expectancy of the patients.

1. Cause
The exact cause of prostate cancer is unknown. However, risk factors for prostate cancer include advancing age, genetic, hormonal influences, exposure to toxins, chemicals, and industrial products. The risk of prostate cancer increases with age. Cases of prostate cancer under the age of 40 years is very rare, most cases occur in men over the age of 80 years.

2. Signs and Symptoms
In the early stages, prostate cancer often causes no symptoms for years. These cancers frequently are first detected by abnormalities in blood tests. In more severe cases, cancer can mebesar and pressing the urethra, thereby reducing the flow of urine.

3. Diagnosis
Abnormalities in one or both screening tests for prostate cancer can be an early detection. Screening tests are performed by digital rectal examination and blood test called prostate specific antigen (PSA). The only test that can confirm the diagnosis of prostate cancer is a biopsy.

4. Treatment
Treatment options for prostate cancer usually include surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, or a combination of several treatments it. A cure for metastatic prostate cancer, unfortunately, can not be presented until now. Surgical treatment for prostate cancer is often referred to as a radical prostatectomy which is the removal of the entire prostate gland.

5. Alternative medicine
Herbal treatments, dietary supplements, and acupuncture is usually performed to help treat prostate cancer. However, the composition of the herbal medicine does not tersstandardisasi so the results vary. And long-term herbal treatment also has side effects that are not known. Currently, there is no evidence that alternative treatments have therapeutic benefit in prostate cancer that has become resistant to conventional treatment.

6. Prevention
No special measures are known to prevent progression of prostate cancer. The development of cancer prevention can be done by early diagnosis and tried to cure the disease through medication and surgery. Early diagnosis can be done by screening for prostate cancer and rectal examination. The purpose of screening is to detect cancer early, small, or even microscopic limited to the prostate gland.
