Therefore, some people even decide to postpone or altogether reluctant to go to the dentist. In previous studies also have found that up to one third of patients have anxiety about dental care.

However, in a small study published in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine, the dentist's practice of eight using acupuncture to treat 16 men and 4 women to treat patients who are anxious.

Level of anxiety experienced by patients were evaluated before and after treatment using a questionnaire called the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Each patient was described as moderately or extremely anxious about going to the dentist.

Many of them have tried to conquer the fear of use of sedatives from the dentist, relaxation techniques, and hypnosis. The acupuncture treatment performed with a needle that is inserted in two specific acupuncture points, GV20 and EX6, above the head for 5 minutes before the dental examination. Acupuncture performed by a dentist himself, are all members of the British Dental Acupuncture Society.
